Fundraising Event for Alive.org.au

4 Hour Yoga Marathon Event

Calling all yogis to join in and participate in this 4 hour yoga marathon guided by Suzie Kellett at Yogabox Springwood (Go Health Clubs).

When:  3pm Saturday 20th May 2017

Yoga & Meditation:  During the event you will melt into a long slow deep yin yoga sequence (developed by Bryan Kest and as trained by Tammy Williams) along with breathing exercises (pranayama) to help calm the body and mind, as well as being guided through a Yoga Nidra practice to aid in deep relaxation.  

How:  You can either donate or get sponsored to join in this inspiring event to raise much needed funds toward the prevention of youth suicide (you do not need to be a member of Go Health or Yogabox Studios to participate).

We’ve all been touched by the challenges and even traumatic events that life can throw at us, and as a community we can inspire and support each other in those hard times to get through it, and also support those who are able to if we are not.

I would like to share my personal story with you in the hope that I may help someone out there too. I look forward to seeing the message spread about this great cause so we can fill up the room with wonderful compassionate yogis and surpass the fund raising goal. Mindfulness & Meditation Workshop

Mindfulness coaching teaches mindfulness-based practices to provide you with the knowledge, skills and support to implement techniques and strategies that you can implement as a daily practice to ease suffering from stress, depression and anxiety. A regular mindfulness practice teaches you skills to concentrate and anchors the mind to the present moment to be attentive and focus.The moment of ‘now’ helps us to rediscover the truth of what is important in our lives and connect with what truly matters

Jon Kabat-Zinn formed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in 1979, and since
this time it has steadily grown to help people face all sorts of challenges.

The practice of Mindfulness helps us to:

Rest and Restore Yoga Feature Class with Suzie Kellett

 What is Rest & Restore Yoga?

During this feature class you will be guided through a series of Restorative Yoga Poses, Pranayama (ancient breathing exercises) to help restore the nervous system and relax the body as well as a Yoga Nidra to assist in achieving the deepest possible state of relaxation which has been used to help people cope with stress related disorders and disease, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  No previous yoga experience is necessary.  This class is suitable for anyone who needs to take time out, rest and recharge the body and mind.

What is Long Slow Deep Yoga?

Long Slow Deep (LSD) is a series developed by Bryan Kest as a complimentary series to Power Yoga. You could consider the Power Yoga as a Yang practice involving movement, muscles activation and contraction and the creation of heat during the practice whereas Long Slow Deep is the Yin practice creating stillness, calm, cooling, encouraging patience, opening up the body, connective tissue, ligaments and fascia to improve mobility and flexibility. Some benefits of LSD to name a few, cultivates mindfulness based practices to improve patience, acceptance and letting go. Additionally the practice assists in healing and injury prevention, finding relaxation, encourages the parasympathetic nervous system (that takes care of rest and digest) to over ride the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system otherwise known as fight, flight freeze. This is a major factoring issue in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Learn to transform tense energy to a steady flow and create some space for yourself.

What to expect?

Each pose during the sequence will be held between 2 minutes to 10 minutes and the complete class runs for 2.5 hours. A practice to cultivate patience. Approach with curiosity.
